Burning Bush? New Book Details Benefits Saints RB Received At USC

Authors DON YAEGER and JIM HENRY have written “TARNISHED HEISMAN,” a book detailing the improper benefits Saints RB REGGIE BUSH allegedly received while at USC and his “relationship with the financiers of a fledgling sports marketing company that could further damage his chances of keeping” his ’05 Heisman Trophy, according to Cole & Robinson of YAHOO SPORTS. The book, which was published by Simon & Schuster and will be released next month, “will include transcripts of recorded conversations that contain Bush acknowledging he owed money” to LLOYD LAKE and MICHAEL MICHAELS, the financiers of New Era Sports & Entertainment. Meanwhile, the NCAA this week interviewed BARBARA GUNNER and LISA LAKE, Lloyd Lake’s mother and sister, respectively, as well as LEMUEL CAMPBELL, Lisa Lake’s ex-husband who was “expected to be an officer in New Era,” all of whom “claim knowledge of the approximately $300,000 in cash and other benefits” supposedly given to Bush (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 12/6). Sources said that Lloyd Lake earlier this week played portions of audio tapes to the NCAA “that allegedly establish an improper financial relationship” between himself and Bush. Sources added that the NCAA “requested and has been given phone records of USC officials, including coaches, as part of the investigation” (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 12/6).
