Sales Of Ravens Merchandise Decline With Team's Performance

Six-Game Losing Streak Having Negative
Effect On Ravens' Merchandise Sales

The Ravens' disappointing on-field performance this season has "blind-sided sales at sporting goods stores" throughout the Baltimore area, according to Ryan Sharrow of the BALTIMORE BUSINESS JOURNAL. The team is 4-8 and has lost six games in a row. Sporting goods retailer Shenk & Tittle estimates that sales of Ravens apparel at its three Baltimore-area stores are down 130% from last season, when the team was 13-3. SportsOneSource analyst Matt Powell indicated that the Ravens' "share of apparel and other licensed product sales is slipping." Baltimore Sports & Novelty owner Jeffrey Katzen "estimates sales of Ravens merchandise at his store are down as much as" 75% and added that sales on Black Friday were "the worst he's experienced since opening the store" on '02. For the week of November 12, the Ravens had a 1.8% share of NFL sales, down from 2.3% at the same point in '06 (BALTIMORE BUSINESS JOURNAL, 11/30 issue).
