New Sensation: Garnett, Moss Jersey Sales Up After Being Traded

Sales Of Garnett, Moss Jerseys
Increase With Move To Boston Teams
Celtics F Kevin Garnett’s No. 5 jersey, following his trade from the T’Wolves prior to this season, has moved from 12th to fourth in season-to-date NBA jersey sales, while Patriots WR Randy Moss’ No. 81 jersey has moved from 15th to seventh on the NFL's list after his trade from the Raiders, according to SportsOneSource data cited by Donna Goodison of the BOSTON HERALD. SportsOneSource analyst Matt Powell said that total NFL jersey sales since August are up 10% over the year ago period, while NBA jersey sales have increased 33% after “dropping by a third in 2006, a terrible year for NBA product sales.” Powell said, “The Garnett trade to Boston had a huge impact on overall sales. … One player like Garnett can turn the needle.” Goodison notes Garnett “had five of the 10 top-selling NBA jerseys the week before last” in rankings based on dollar sales by major U.S. retailers, excluding stadium sales. Moss’ jersey ranks one spot ahead of Patriots QB Tom Brady, whose sales have improved from 14th in ’06 to eighth this year. Heat G Dwyane Wade’s jersey “topped the NBA’s best-sellers list for sales through August,” while Colts QB Peyton Manning “has the No. 1 spot on the NFL jersey list" for the second year in a row (BOSTON HERALD, 12/5).
