Take Out Service: Pirates Remove Outback From PNC Park Location
The Pirates are partnering with Aramark to renovate the Outback Steakhouse above PNC Park’s left field bleachers into a new restaurant and entertainment space for the ’08 season. The restaurant will be similar to the Braves’ Chop House at Turner Field (Pirates). In Pittsburgh, Mark Belko notes the Chop House is an 8,000 square-foot restaurant with terrace seating and an outdoor patio. The Pirates wants to "create 'a casual dining and bar atmosphere' that would be open to all fans" with a game ticket, who will be able "to come and go as they please." When it was an Outback, a fan "had to purchase a package that included tickets and a food allowance." The Pirates "expect to have the new restaurant and entertainment space ready for opening day." The Outback made 134 seats available for home games, cutting PNC Park's official capacity to 38,362, excluding standing room. Pirates Senior Dir of Communication Brian Warecki said that the team "also is exploring the idea of keeping it open after games," but it has yet to be decided whether it would be open on non-game days, as the Outback was (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 12/4).
