Phillies Unveil New Alternate
Home Uniforms For '08 Season |
The Phillies Thursday unveiled new alternate home uniforms for the ’08 season that will pay tribute to the team’s 125th anniversary. The uniforms, styled after the ones the team wore in the ‘40s, will be worn for all home day games (Phillies). In Philadelphia, Todd Zolecki notes the uniforms will not be worn for the March 31 home opener against the Nationals. Phillies VP/ Marketing & Advertising Sales Dave Buck said that the Phillies were “one of just five or six teams not to offer an alternate jersey” and the team approached Majestic a year and a half ago about creating the new uniforms. The “modern twist” of the design includes the Phillies logo on the front and a fabric that "should breathe easier.” The hat is blue with a red brim and “the same P the club has used for years.” Zolecki notes the team's offseason sales “haven’t slowed” and the addition of new uniforms will further "help merchandise sales.” Modell’s Sporting Goods VP/Marketing & Advertising Jim Belbruno said Phillies merchandise sales at his stores are “on fire, unquestionably.” Belbruno noted with the Phillies making the playoffs, “There was a ton of momentum built in October, and people are excited. And the introduction of a new jersey at the right time, heading into the holidays, will only continue to fuel that” (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 11/30).
