Texas Two Step: MLS Urging AEG To Sell Dynamo, Own Only Galaxy

| MLS Urging AEG To Sell Dynamo |
MLS is "urging [AEG] to sell the Dynamo" because it also owns the Galaxy, and a source said a group including boxer Oscar De La Hoya is in negotiations to buy the team, according to Murphy & Fallas of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. MLS Commissioner Don Garber two weeks ago told the N.Y. Times, "Houston will soon have a new owner." However, Garber later said that the comment "was merely another instance of his urging owners to own only one team." Garber said it would be "very speculative and inappropriate" to suggest a sale is imminent. Dynamo and city of Houston officials said that a sale "would not alter AEG's plan to form a private-public partnership within weeks with the city to build a downtown soccer stadium," as a deal would include a clause stating the club would not relocate (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 11/23). In Houston, Glenn Davis wrote, "It is time for a soccer-specific stadium in Houston, and downtown is just the place for it." The Dynamo have won two straight MLS Cups, and with a "growing fan base, the organization deserves the support of the city, especially when [AEG] is willing to put [$60-72M] into the stadium" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 11/25).
