The 15-day sale at the KEENELAND NOVEMBER BREEDING STOCK SALE, which ended yesterday, produced record sales of $340M and a world-record $10.5M broodmare. Gross receipts surpassed the previous $317.7M record set in '99 on the ninth sale day, and the $340M marked an 8.6% increase from last year's 14-day gross of $313.8M (THE DAILY).

CINEMA: The Michigan-based WATERSMEET TOWNSHIP SCHOOL NIMRODS high school boy's basketball team, the subject of a series of ESPN ads under the tagline, "Without sports, who would cheer for the Nimrods?" will be the subject of an eight-part documentary series on the Sundance Channel that begins November 26. Documentary filmmaker BRETT MORGEN followed the team on and off the court during their '05-06 season (AP, 11/17)....Boxing film "CHAMACO" began filming this week in Mexico City under director MIGUEL NECOECHEA. The film stars ALEX PEREA as an aspiring Olympic boxer as well as MARTIN SHEEN and KIRK HARRIS, who become his mentors (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 11/19).

BOOK SHELF:  The story of former MLBer BABE DAHLGREN, who was the "first player tested for drug use" in '43, is told in a new book titled, "RUMOR IN TOWN" by Babe's grandson MATT DAHLGREN.  The book details how Dahlgren's career and life "were ruined by an unsubstantiated rumor that he smoked marijuana." The book claims that Yankees Manager JOE MCCARTHY started the rumor, which was propagated by BRANCH RICKEY. Former MLB Commissioner FAY VINCENT said, "It's not one of baseball's prettiest stories, and I regret that it didn't get fixed before he died" (N.Y. TIMES, 11/18).

ON CAMPUS: Texas Tech Univ. (TTU) alums have created the “I Like Mike” campaign, which is designed to raise $10,000 to cover the Big 12 Conference record fine handed to TTU football coach MIKE LEACH after he criticized the officials following the team’s loss to the Univ. of Texas on November 10 (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 11/20)….The COLLEGE OF SPORTS MEDIA, which will offer a two-year diploma course on sports broadcasting, opened in Toronto yesterday (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 11/20).

Lil' Romeo Signs Letter Of Intent
To Play Basketball At USC
NAMES: Actor/rapper LIL' ROMEO, whose full name is PERCY ROMEO MILLER, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for USC next season. Miller, a senior at Beverly Hills High School, is the son of hip-hop mogul MASTER P, who had  tryouts with two NBA teams in the '90s (AP, 11/19)....The CANADIAN OLYMPIC COMMITTEE will pay Olympic athletes beginning with the ’08 Beijing Games C$20,000 for winning a gold medal, C$15,000 for a silver and C$10,000 for a bronze, the first time the organization has offered such incentives. The COC stipend is expected to take C$1.3M off of its annual budget (TORONTO SUN, 11/20)....AHMAD RASHAD yesterday in N.Y. married SALE JOHNSON, the ex-wife of Jets Owner WOODY JOHNSON. NBA Commissioner DAVID STERN, Yankees SS DEREK JETER and DONALD TRUMP were among those in attendance (N.Y. POST, 11/20).

IN MEMORY: Former Goodman’s Uniforms President CHUCK POEHLER died on November 14 after suffering a stroke. Poehler owned Goodman & Sons, which outfitted the Astros, Dodgers, Cowboys, Patriots, several NHL teams and college football and basketball teams during the ‘70s and ‘80s (THE DAILY)….Former NASCAR driver and team owner BILLY HAGAN, who won the ’84 Winston Cup Championship with driver TERRY LABONTE, died yesterday at the age of 75 (SCENEDAILY.com, 11/19).
