Quoth The Raven, Nevermore: Mannion To Become Dodgers COO

Mannion To Become Dodgers COO
JOE TORRE is not the only management change the Dodgers are making this offseason. Ravens Senior VP/Business Ventures DENNIS MANNION is joining the club as COO, effective December 3. Mannion will be responsible for all business units and report to Owner FRANK MCCOURT and Vice Chair & President JAMIE MCCOURT. "The Dodgers are truly one of the most powerful and enduring brands in sports and being able to work with that level of IP was very attractive to me,'' said Mannion, who has been with the Ravens for almost eight years. "Baseball overall has been on a great economic roll, but I still see considerable upside for the game in general and the Dodgers in particular.'' Mannion said it is "too early to get very specific" about his agenda. Mannion: "I'll dive into the strategy, structure and staff, and then we'll have an opportunity to draft a plan.'' One issue sure to be on Mannion's plate is the transition from the team's longtime Spring Training facility in Vero Beach, Florida, to Glendale, Arizona, in '09. Mannion originally joined the Ravens as VP/Business Development & Marketing in December '99 and served as Senior VP at Ascent Sports, then-owner of the Avalanche, Nuggets and Pepsi Center, from '97-99. Mannion joins the Dodgers with considerable MLB team experience, having spent 16 season with the Phillies from '82-97, last serving as VP/Marketing.
