Red Sox Help Boost
Lottery Ticket Sales
Red Sox-branded $5 and $10 lottery tickets have produced $220M in sales for the Massachusetts State Lottery (MSL) year-to-date. The tickets debuted last year and generated $120M in sales for all of ’06. During the week of the World Series, fans spent $3.2M on Red Sox lottery tickets, compared with $1.2M during the same week last year. Prizes from these tickets include tickets to Yankees-Red Sox games and season tickets for life at Fenway. The MSL “saw revenue drop for the first time in decades" during FY ’06, but “so far this year, sales are up” (BOSTON HERALD, 11/7).

HOLO MAN: NASCAR will introduce a new hologram featuring DuPont Authentication Systems’ “Track and Trace” enforcement system on all officially licensed merchandise produced in ’08 in an effort to aid in the enforcement of counterfeit merchandise. In support of the program, NASCAR next year will have an extensive ad campaign including TV, radio, print and online ads that will communicate the purpose of the program and ask fans to help police knock-off goods (NASCAR).

BANKROLLS & BROOMSTICKS: In Toronto, Bob Weeks reports Capital One has signed on to title sponsor the four events of the World Curling Tour Grand Slam, “adding another level of legitimacy to the sport.” The Grand Slam began in the ’01-02 season, and CBC broadcasts all four men’s events. Capital One will also support the tour’s School of Rock program in which curlers “give lessons to schoolchildren when Grand Slam events are held in their municipalities” (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 11/7).
