Rockies Raising Ticket Prices In '08
For Second Consecutive Season |
Rockies Chair & CEO Charlie Monfort and Vice Chair Dick Monfort sent a letter to season-ticket holders indicating prices will rise about 15% next year, according to Troy Renck of the DENVER POST. The move marks the second straight year the club has raised prices, though the average ticket cost will remain among MLB's bottom 15%. Dick Monfort said that the "increased revenue would help cover the payroll increase" from $54M in '07 to a projected $70M in '08. Monfort said, "The payroll is going up because we have a bunch of guys who are beginning the arbitration process." Rockies VP/Communications & PR Jay Alves said that the amount will vary "depending on seat location." Infield box seats will increase from $27 to $35 per game, though the letter noted that average season-ticket savings "is $1,000 compared with individual game prices." Alves said the team's World Series run gave it a "significant season-ticket boost" -- sales are up 20% from this time in '06. The Rockies have added over 2,000 new accounts, and Monfort said that the club is in position to reach a 17,000-18,000 season-ticket base (DENVER POST, 11/7).
