Jumping At The Chance: Company Preps KangaRoos' Market Re-Entry

One7 To Reintroduce KangaRoos Shoes In U.S.
Massachusetts-based One7 has secured a license from U.K.-based Pentland Group to sell KangaRoos athletic shoes in the U.S. beginning this month, and the company plans to “expand into KangaRoos clothing and accessories,” according to Donna Goodison of the BOSTON HERALD. The brand had lines of basketball, baseball and football shoes in the ‘80s before “its popularity started to decline.” However, One7 President Jared Carver indicated that the brand has “re-emerged as a ‘quirky’ lifestyle brand with an athletic heritage," with prices averaging $55-80 for adults.  Goodison notes One7 “sees its biggest opportunity in selling youthful, fashion-forward KangaRoos … to young, 20-something women and teen-age girls.” The company also plans to “play up the brand’s heritage … with an edgier, underground taste” geared for men in their 20s. The first new KangaRoos designs will hit retail next fall, and women’s apparel sales playing off the shoes' pocket theme will debut in the spring (BOSTON HERALD, 11/7).
