NBC's "Sunday Night Football" Flex Options Examined

With NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” beginning its second season of NFL flex scheduling next week, the chart below lists NBC's scheduled games, the five games each protected by Fox and CBS, and some potential games the NFL may choose to put on in primetime on NBC.  Information on protected games was gathered from various sources, including today's edition of USA Today, as well as sources of THE DAILY.

NOTES: Only three teams can appear as many as six times in primetime -- on NBC, ESPN or NFL Network -- and no team can appear more than four times on NBC. ^ =  NBC was originally scheduled to air Bears-Seahawks in Week 11, but that game will now be carried on Fox.  ^^ = the Patriots will play their sixth primetime game of the season in Week 17 on NFL Network, meaning if the NFL wanted to put another Patriots game on NBC, Eagles-Patriots would have to be moved off of NBC's schedule.  For Week 13, NFL Network will air Packers-Cowboys, meaning NBC cannot selected Cowboys-Lions during Week 14 because the Cowboys will have played six primetime games. Neither Fox nor CBS can protect games during Week 17 (THE DAILY).
