Grounds Crew Repairing Damage To Wembley
Stadium Field From Sunday's NFL Game
In London, Oliver Brown notes the grounds crew at Wembley Stadium has “begun repairing the damage” from Sunday's Giants-Dolphins game in time for the Croatia-England Euro 2008 qualifier on November 21. David Saltman, who formerly was in charge of the field at Millennium Stadium, said that Wembley was “never equipped to deal" with heavy rain. Saltman: “The ground is not seeded and so whenever there is rain, the top two inches of turf hold the water like a sponge.” A FA spokesperson is “confident” the field will be ready for the match (London TELEGRAPH, 10/30).

NFL TICKETS: SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL’s Kaplan & Fisher note NFL owners voted last week to select one of six secondary ticketing companies to be the “official source of ticket resales for the league, ultimately replacing the current patchwork of team-level deals.” League sources said a selection is “expected by late November, and the system could be operational in time for the Super Bowl.” A source said that the six companies responding to the league’s RFP are StubHub, Viagogo, Ticketmaster, TicketsNow, Seat Exchange and Flash Seats. Ticketmaster, through its TicketExchange service, works with 15 of the league’s 32 teams; StubHub has eight team deals (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 10/29 issue).

LAUREL PARK: The DAILY RACING FORM’s Matt Hegarty noted Laurel Park canceled its race card next Friday, citing a "planned rally that morning in front of the Maryland state capitol ... in advance of hearings to discuss the possibility of legalizing slot machines at the state’s racetracks.” The track will provide buses to the 9:00am ET rally for its employees and trainers. The hearings are scheduled to being at 11:00am. Laurel said that it would make up the canceled card with a live card on January 2 (DRF.com, 10/26).
