In K.C., Bill Reiter reported only about one-third of the money needed for the $15M BUCK O'NEIL EDUCATION & RESEARCH CENTER has been raised, and a year after O'Neil's death, officials "acknowledge being behind on their biggest fundraising project, but stress that the museum's overall finances are sound." Officials "agree the museum is bigger than one man," but they differ on how much O'Neil's death "has affected leadership and day-to-day operations." While Exec Dir DON MOTLEY and other officials are in place, no one has replaced O'Neil as Chair, an issue "the board plans to address in the next two months" (K.C. STAR, 10/20).

France To Be Inducted Into
Broadcasting & Cable HOF
HONORS: NASCAR Chair & CEO BRIAN FRANCE will be inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable HOF. France, "an instrumental force" in NASCAR's last two TV contracts, also "helped give networks their money's worth" by creating the Chase for the Nextel Cup format (BROADCASTING & CABLE, 10/22 issue)....Former NCAA President DR. JAMES FRANK will receive this year's NCAA President's Gerald R. Ford Award, which honors individuals who have provided "leadership as an advocate for higher education and intercollegiate athletics." NCAA President MYLES BRAND will present Frank the award on January 12 at the '08 NCAA Convention (NCAA).

NAMES: Galaxy MF DAVID BECKHAM is ranked atop AskMen.com's annual list of the Top 49 Men. Also in the top ten are ATPer ROGER FEDERER and F1 driver LEWIS HAMILTON.  Over 1 million votes have been tallied over the past 30 days (USA TODAY, 10/23)....Red Sox 1B KEVIN YOUKILIS last night introduced his new foundation, HITS FOR KIDS, which will benefit Boston's Italian Home for Children and Joslin Pediatric Health Services, as well as children-focused charities in Cincinnati, Youkilis' hometown (BOSTON HERALD, 10/23).
