Reliant Park, Houston Stadiums Receive Health Code Violations

Reliant Park Receives Over 400
Health Violations In Last Two Years
Reliant Park in the past two years has received 400 tickets from the city of Houston for health code violations including not enough hot water and hand-washing stations, "adequate maintenance or proper food storage," according to David Ellison of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. But "despite a few instances of insects, rodents and food crud in ovens and on preparation equipment," a health department official deemed the visits as "probably not bad inspections." The health department's Consumer Health Services acting Bureau Chief Conrad Janus said that despite the violations, Reliant Stadium "does not have major health code problems overall."  Inspectors also cited 161 violations at Minute Maid Park, including hand-washing sinks "that were not accessible to employees at all times, underutilized measures to minimize fruit flies and other insects, and ice-making machines that were not maintained to prevent contamination." Aramark Senior PR Manager David Freireich said the company, which operates the concessions at Reliant Stadium and Minute Maid Park, takes "all violations very seriously and take immediate corrective action to address them when they occur."  Toyota Center was notified of 19 violations last year, including an ice-machine problem, syrup spills in a soda tank and a dirty popcorn machine. The concession stands at Toyota Center are operated by Levy Restaurants (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 10/22).
