Husky Stadium Renovations To Cost More Than Allotted Funds

Husky Stadium Renovations
Lacking Enough Funds
A committee looking into renovations at the Univ. of Washington's (UW) Husky Stadium found a "huge gap between projected costs and revenue," and the panel will "likely present a far more modest plan than envisioned," according to Perry & Condotta of the SEATTLE TIMES. Former Washington Gov. Dan Evans is heading the committee and indicated that stadium renovations "as envisioned would cost about $415[M]." However, he added that "extra donations and increased ticket sales are estimated to bring in just $130[M]." Evans: "This is a lot more challenging than it appeared to be a month or two ago." UW AD Todd Turner indicated that "he would not characterize the new financial figures as a setback." Turner said, "It means that there is a manageable piece we can begin with. We knew all along, from the very start, that there is not a single source of funds that is going to cover the full stadium program" (SEATTLE TIMES, 10/19). In Seattle, Amy Rolph reports the UW Board of Regents is contemplating "selling the stadium's naming rights." If problems at Husky Stadium go unattended, UW "could be looking at $100[M] in deferred maintenance in 10 years." UW President Mark Emmert said naming the field inside the stadium was also an option (SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER, 10/19).
