NFLPA Looking Into Rumors Spread About Agents Parker, Barnes

NFLPA Looking Into False Rumors
About Berrian's Former Agents

The NFLPA has launched an investigation into whether an agent spread a false rumor that veteran NFL player agents Eugene Parker and Roosevelt Barnes were about to be suspended, information which led to their firing by Bears WR Bernard Berrian. “We are most definitely looking into this,” NFLPA General Counsel RICHARD BERTHELSEN said, in a telephone interview last night. “We urge anyone who has direct knowledge of who is spreading this false information to contact us. Any solicitation of a player client on false pretenses is a violation of our regulations,” he said.  Sources said that top NFLPA officials personally told Berrian last week that rumors Parker and Barnes were going to be disciplined were not true. Berthelsen said he would not comment on any conversations he may have had with any player.  But he said, “We confirmed to anyone who inquired there is no impending discipline of any kind for Eugene or Roosevelt” (Liz Mullen, SportsBusiness Journal). In Chicago, McClure & Mullin reported Berrian "denied reports that he plans to drop [Barnes] in favor of DREW ROSENHAUS.  Berrian "did say he was told that Barnes and ... Parker might face a suspension from the players association." Berrian:  "I heard something, I went and researched it, found out that it wasn't true. So now I'm just waiting to make a decision" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 10/15).
