ESPN.com's Elizabeth Merrill reported the Univ. of Nebraska (UN) named former football coach TOM OSBORNE as interim AD after the school Monday fired AD STEVE PEDERSON. UN Chancellor HARVEY PERLMAN said that he has received "roughly 300 to 400 e-mails a day in the past few weeks," and that they had "turned positive" after Pederson's dismissal. Perlman said that Osborne will be on staff until "at least next summer," and will "decide the fate" of head football coach BILL CALLAHAN (ESPN.com, 10/16). In Lincoln, Curt McKeever reports Osborne agreed to an "open-ended deal" worth about $260,000 annually,  meaning he "can be in the position for as long as he wants" (Lincoln JOURNAL-STAR, 10/17).

TENNIS: The Int’l Tennis HOF announced Liquid Investments Chair & CEO RON FOWLER, Intercontinental Real Estate Corp. Chair & CEO PETER PALANDJIAN and Comcast-Spectacor Foundation Senior VP MARY ANN SALESKI have been elected to the BOD. Current HOF Board members CONSTANTINE MACRICOSTAS and PETER HURLEY have been appointed to the Exec Committee (TENNISWEEK.com, 10/15).

CUBS: The Cubs promoted the following: Dir of Sales & Marketing JAY BLUNK to VP/Marketing & Broadcasting; Dir of Player Development & Latin American Operations ONERI FLEITA to VP/Player Personnel; Head Athletic Trainer MARK O’NEAL to Dir of Athletic Training; Dir of Information Systems & Special Projects CARL RICE to Senior Dir of Information Systems & Special Projects; and Dir of HR JENNY SURMA to Senior Dir of HR (Cubs)....Cubs Business Operations Exec Secretary GAYLE FINNEY is leaving the organization to become an administrator at Bayer Diabetes Care in Mishawaka, Indiana (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 10/16).

PACERS: Pacers Sports & Entertainment (PS&E) promoted the following: CHRIS BENCE to Dir of Group Sales; KRIS KOVATOVIC to Sales Manager; MICHAEL GUNSBERG and JAKE REYNOLDS to Sales Consultants; and DAVE NEFF and CAMERON NELSON to Ticket Services Coordinator. AARON O’LEARY was named Premium Sales Manager and KERRY NAGLE Service Fulfillment Coordinator (PS&E).

EXECS: Comcast SportsNet West named RICHARD LEESON Dir of Programming. Leeson comes to the network from the state of California, where he was Dir of Broadcasting & Experiential Marketing and also the Exec Producer of California Lottery's weekly 30-min TV game show (John Ourand, THE DAILY)....Comcast has hired National Cable & Telecommunications Association Exec VP DAVID KRONE as Senior VP/Corporate Affairs, and he will report to Exec VP DAVID COHEN (CABLEFAX DAILY, 10/17)....Learfield Sports promoted Senior Account Exec DAN HAWLEY to GM for its Univ. of Wyoming Sports Properties, replacing former GM CHUCK SCHROEDER who will become GM of the firm's Univ. of Iowa property (Learfield)....The Astros named CHRIS GARCIA Graphic Designer (Astros).
