Franchise Notes
An MLB source said that neither Yankees Owner George Steinbrenner nor any other
Yankees official "complained about the umpires’ decision to continue
playing” during Yankees-Indians ALDS Game Two when a swarm of insects
gathered on the field. The source: “It didn’t happen.”
In a special to SI.com, Fortune’s Jon Birger noted in an October 7 interview
with the Bergen Record, Steinbrenner was quoted as saying that the
team “complained to [MLB] commissioner Bud Selig" about the decision.
Birger wrote the story, “if indeed fictitious, is more evidence of Steinbrenner’s
fading faculties” (SI.com, 10/10).
