Phillies Execs Refute Rumors That
Team Will Be Sold Within Two Years |
Philadelphia Daily News columnist Stan Hochman on CSN’s “Daily News Live” yesterday reported that the Phillies “could be sold within two years,” although the team “vehemently denied there was a movement afoot to buy the team,” according to the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS. Hochman indicated that his report “was based on a reliable source who said that a solid bid had been made to buy the team, but that the offer had been rejected.” The source said that the potential buyers “are based in Philadelphia, and well-established in the community,” but there was one hold out among the limited partnership that owns the team, which has "an agreement that any sale be based on unanimous approval” (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 10/11). In Philadelphia, Jim Salisbury notes there were "multiple media reports yesterday that the [Phillies] would be sold soon." But Phillies President & CEO David Montgomery said, "Nothing could be further from the truth. There’s absolutely nothing to it” (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 10/11).
