Director Accuses Mark Cuban Of Censoring War Movie

Director BRIAN DE PALMA has accused Mavericks Owner MARK CUBAN of censoring “REDACTED,” a film Cuban financially backed that is based on the rape of an Iraqi teenager and the murder of her family by American soldiers, according to gossip columnists Rush & Molloy of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. Photos of GIs wounded in combat have been “obscured at the end of the movie.” De Palma at a Q&A session about the movie told an audience, “It’s because [Cuban], the man that financed this movie, was disturbed by (them).” Eamonn Bowles, President of Cuban's Magnolia Pictures, immediately responded, “That’s not true!” Bowles: “It’s a legal issue, and we’re going to resolve it.” De Palma replied, “Yes, we are. I felt my cut was violated, and I am seeking to have those pictures unredacted.” Rush & Molloy note Cuban gave De Palma $5M for the film “on the condition that he shoot it on high-definition video for Cuban’s company HDNet.” Neither Cuban nor De Palma could be reached for comment. The film will be shown at the Rose Hall at Time Warner Center in N.Y. tonight and in theaters beginning November 16 (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 10/11).  To see the debate between De Palma and Bowles at the N.Y. Film Festival, visit SportsBusinessDaily.com.
