Charity Stripe: DC United Selling Breast Cancer Awareness Hat
MLS United has teamed up with Kicks Against Breast Cancer to sell an adidas-branded United breast cancer awareness hat throughout October, which will support the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource & Image Center, located in Columbia, Maryland (United)....New Balance will increase their long-term relationship with Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure by donating an expected $1M from the New Balance "Lace Up for the Cure Collection." The company also will debut a new ad campaign to highlight itself as the longest running sponsor of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Series (New Balance).
NAMES: Ravens TE Todd Heap has pledged $1M toward a new pediatric center at the Franklin Square Hospital Center in Baltimore. The gift will help start construction of a seven-story patient care tower at the facility (Baltimore SUN, 10/5)....ATPer Andy Roddick has teamed with Our Lady of the Lake Univ. and received financial support from the Rene Lacoste Foundation to create the Andy Roddick Youth Tennis Program in San Antonio (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 10/4)....Mariners Care helped provide almost $1.2M this year for multiple charities in the Northwest, marking the eighth consecutive year the foundation has given more than $1M (MLB.com, 10/3)....Former NFLers Colin Branch and Mike Minter will host a basketball shoot-a-thon in Charlotte on December 1 as part of Hoops of Hope.
