NFL Names & Faces: Vince Young Profiled On "60 Minutes"

CBS' "60 Minutes" Profiles Titans' Vince Young
Titans QB Vince Young was profiled on CBS' "60 Minutes" last night, and after the show examined Young's troubled childhood, CBS' Scott Pelley said, "Today, the kid who ate syrup sandwiches has a five-year contract that could be worth $58[M], not to mention endorsement deals worth another $30[M], deals that include Reebok, (EA Sports') 'Madden 08' and the National Dairy Council" ("60 Minutes," CBS, 9/30).

AMERICAN IDOL: Yesterday's edition of ESPN's "Sunday NFL Countdown" profiled Cowboys QB Tony Romo, and ESPN's Ed Werder said, "During the off-season, Romo was criticized for pursuing celebrity just a little too hard. Not only did he judge the Miss Universe pageant, but his relationship with Carrie Underwood created speculation and landed him in the tabloids when he escorted her to the Country Music Awards.” Romo said, "I turn down 95% of the things that come up. But once in a great while when something comes up that seems fun, hey, if I've got nothing going on, I'll go do it" ("Sunday NFL Countdown," ESPN, 9/30).

MILE HIGH: Denver-based sports marketer Steve Sander said, "The appeal of the Broncos is so large, and so much more effective [than the market's other teams]. Clearly, the Broncos as a whole dwarfs everyone else in town." McDonald's has a local endorsement deal with TE Daniel Graham -- who was acquired by the Broncos this offseason -- and McDonald's Regional Marketing Dir Carolyn Gust said that the QSR "was attracted by the idea that Graham, who grew up in Denver and played his college ball at Colorado, was returning home to play for the Broncos." In an ad for McDonald's, Graham buys food for the team at the drive-thru (DENVER POST, 9/30).
