Franchise Notes

In Houston, Brian McTaggart reported the Astros will host both the Yankees and the Red Sox at Minute Maid Park in '08, "after campaigning for years" to get the two teams in Houston.  The team released their '08 home schedule and the Yankees are "tentatively scheduled" to visit for a three-game series on June 13-15, while the Red Sox will come two weeks later on June 27-29. The Yankees and Red Sox are the only two teams that have not played a regular season game at Minute Maid Park (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 9/29).

Writer Feels Jones' Signing Of Owens
One Of Many Good Moves Of Late
COWBOYS: In San Antonio, Tom Orsborn wrote Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones "deserves a top mark most of all in the Cowboys' organization." From signing WR Terrell Owens to "passing on the chance to draft [QB] Brady Quinn in favor of sticking with [QB] Tony Romo, Jones has pretty much made all the right moves the last two years." Jones also "made the right call" in hiring coach Wade Phillips and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 9/29).

NFL: The AP's Rachel Cohen noted NFL teams close to borders of both Canada and Mexico have "unique opportunities to augment not only game attendance, but merchandise sales, broadcasting revenues and corporate sponsorships." Bills Owner Ralph Wilson said that Bills ticket sales in Canada are up 18% this season, "boosted by greater parity between the American and Canadian dollars" (AP, 9/27).
