MLB Pledges Help In Steroids Investigation; Seeks Names

Glaus Could Be Facing 50-Game Suspension
For Connection To Signature Pharmacy
MLB Exec VP/Labor Relations Rob Manfred met with officials from Albany County (NY) DA David Soares' office last Monday, “pledging to help the ongoing investigation" into Orlando-based Signature Pharmacy as it relates to MLB players, according to sources cited by T.J. Quinn of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. Soares’ office, in return, “likely will share information with MLB that could show that several players received drugs from Signature."  Blue Jays 3B Troy Glaus and Orioles LF Jay Gibbons, who along with Cardinals RF Rick Ankiel have been linked to Signature in media reports, could both “start next season on 50-game suspensions.”  A source said that Manfred’s meeting in Albany “salvaged a sour first impression MLB representatives left when they visited Soares’ office in March.” Sources said that Albany officials were “put off by what [they] felt was the ‘arrogant’ and ‘patronizing’ attitude” of MLB Senior VP/Security Kevin Hallinan and former Chief Labor Counsel Frank Coonelly, who was recently named Pirates President. Conversely, the NFL's delegation was described as “cooperative” and “respectful.” When the names of Patriots S Rodney Harrison and Cowboys assistant coach Wade Wilson emerged during the investigation, officials “shared that information with the NFL clubs,” and Patriots Owner Bob Kraft and Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones “helped arranged meetings with their personnel” (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 9/30).
