ESPN's Eagles-Redskins "MNF" Rating
Tops For Night Among All Networks
NFL:  Monday night’s Redskins-Eagles game on ESPN earned a 9.1 coverage area rating (7.7 U.S.), down 14.2% from a 10.6 (8.8 U.S.) for Steelers-Jaguars in Week Two last year.  The “MNF” rating was still tops for the night among all networks, broadcast or cable.  The game averaged 8.7 million HHs, second most in cable for the year, and 11.6 million viewers.  Demos for Monday’s game were down across most key male demos, including M18-49 (-6%) and M25-54 (-12%).  Season-to-date, ESPN’s three NFL games are averaging a 8.2 coverage area rating,  down 13.7% from a 9.7 for the first three games in '06.  The telecasts, however, still account for the second-, third-, and fifth-most-watched shows on cable in ’07. Disney’s “High School Musical 2” is first with 9.4 million HHs (THE DAILY).

MLB: Cubs games are averaging a 4.2 on Comcast SportsNet Chicago this season, up 45% from last year’s final average of 2.9 (Comcast SportsNet)….Wednesday night’s Orioles-Yankees game did a 7.6 rating in the N.Y. market, translating to 759,00 viewers. The rating is tied with the August 26 Red Sox-Yankees telecast as the highest-rated YES program since September 29, 2005 (YES).

NOTES:  The final round of the Tour Championship on NBC was up 233% over last year’s final round of the tournament on ABC, which earned a 0.9/2 from 1:00-5:00pm ET in early November (THE DAILY)....The Louisville-Kentucky college football game last Saturday was the highest-rated program in ESPN Classic’s history, earning a 0.78 rating and 859,560 HHs, which does not include ratings or viewers for those watching on WHAS-ABC in Louisville or WKYT-CBS in Lexington (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 9/20)…. ESPN2’s coverage of the ’07 WNBA Finals, featuring Mercury-Shock, was up 25% in ratings and 10% in viewers from last year’s finals, which featured Shock-Monarchs and also went to five games.  The four games on ESPN2 earned a 0.5 average rating, up from a 0.4 rating, while averaging 436,000 HHs, up from 397,000 HHs in ’06 (THE DAILY).
