NFL Destroys All Videotapes, Notes Requested From Patriots

The NFL has received and destroyed “all the videotapes, notes and documents it requested” from the Patriots after the team’s spying scandal, and the case “appears closed,” according to Karen Guregian of the BOSTON HERALD. The league issued a statement Thursday saying that the Patriots complied with  Commissioner Roger Goodell’s request and “vowed they haven’t kept anything behind.” The statement reads, “The Patriots have fully cooperated and complied with the requirements of the commissioner’s decision. ... The Patriots have certified in writing that no copies or other records exist.” When asked if further sanctions could come down on the team, NFL Senior VP/PR Greg Aiello said, “I don’t expect anything further” (BOSTON HERALD, 9/21).

GLAZER: In N.Y., Bob Raissman writes while Fox’ Jay Glazer obtaining the videotape “was big for Fox,” it also “came with a price.” The league is trying to determine who leaked the tape to Glazer, and it is “not the first time the NFL has tried to discover his sources.  Still, even with some of his most familiar [sources] , he is now radioactive.”  Glazer said, “I feel very good about breaking the story. But I don’t like the witch hunt (the NFL is conducting) because the wrong people get hurt.” Fox has yet to be contacted by the league about the tape, and Glazer said that he “did not tell anyone at Fox how he obtained the tape.” Glazer: “I told them (Fox Sports executives) if my source is an issue then let’s not run the video. And if they come to me now and say, ‘Look, you have no job unless you tell us,’ I would tell them: ‘Then I better start looking for a new job’” (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 9/21).
