As part of an "aggressive strategy to boost attendance," almost half of the Capitals' roster is calling fans "who might be interested in renewing or buying season tickets," according to Tim Lemke of the WASHINGTON TIMES. The team this week asked about 20 players to make around 20 calls each, most of which were directed to "existing season ticket holders who have not yet renewed for this year" or other fans who have expressed interest in buying tickets. Capitals LW Donald Brashear said, "When you hear from someone who's been inside the dressing room, it's a lot more convincing that a normal (sales) call." Lemke notes it is "unclear whether the calls are having an immediate effect on boosting sales," but a team spokesperson said that over a dozen ticket holders "renewed their plans on the spot" after receiving the calls on Wednesday. Player involvement is part of a sales and marketing strategy that has resulted in over a 90% season-ticket renewal rate. Team officials said that they "would like to boost the season ticket base from 7,500 last year to more than 9,000" (WASHINGTON TIMES, 9/21).
