Mystics Tap Bibb
As New COO |
The WNBA Mystics yesterday announced the hiring of GREG BIBB as the team's new COO, where he will oversee day-to-day operations. For the last two years, Bibb has served as President of Hantz Group Sports & Entertainment and MISL Detroit Ignition Exec VP (Mystics). In DC, Marc Carig reports Bibb's top priorities will include adding corporate sponsorship and boosting attendance. Bibb replaces CURTIS SYMONDS, who resigned last week after being hired by Mystics President & Managing Partner SHEILA JOHNSON shortly after she bought the team for $10M in '05. Johnson revealed in the last year the club "has lost approximately $500,000, an amount greater than typical annual losses," due to declining corporate sponsorship. Once one of the "most popular franchises in the WNBA, the team's attendance also stagnated the last two seasons," averaging about 7,700 fans per game. Johnson said of Symonds, "He's a great salesperson and he's a great guy, and he did a good job for me those two years. But now it's time where I get somebody that understands the business" (WASHINGTON POST, 9/18).
