Kroenke Will Tell Arsenal BOD He Is Not After Club

Kroenke Sports Enterprises Owner Stan Kroenke will “reassure the Arsenal board that he has no intention of mounting a takeover bid at present,” according to Jason Burt of the London INDEPENDENT. Instead, he will tell the BOD, "hopefully in a meeting next month, that his priority is to raise the standards" of the Rapids and MLS.  Sources “accept that Kroenke also saw acquiring the 12.2[%] stake in Arsenal as an opportunity to explore whether or not he should buy the club but that, now, he feels it would be too complicated and drawn out” (London INDEPENDENT, 9/7).

Garber Meets With Potential
Investors In Philadelphia Team
PHILLY CORRAL: In Philadelphia, William Bender notes MLS Commissioner Don Garber Thursday “gave his strongest indication yet that Philadelphia will have its own soccer franchise by 2010 -- and that it’s stadium will be built in nearby Chester City.” Garber met with Delaware County officials and a potential group of investors, including iStar Financial CEO Jay Sugarman, Swarthmore Group Founder James Nevels and real estate developer Robert Buccini. The $120M stadium complex would be built along the Delaware River in Chester City (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 9/7). Delaware County Council Chair Andrew Reilly said “we don’t have any exact numbers” on what portions would be publicly and privately financed. Reilly: “That is going to be the subject of the (next) meeting" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 9/7).

SECOND COMING: Toronto FC is increasing ticket prices next season by an average of 13% and will not include the ’08 MLS All-Star Game, which will be played at BMO Stadium, in its subscribers package. The lowest-priced seats will increase from $10 to $12, $53 seats rise to $58, and club seats go from $70 to $77. Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment Exec VP & COO Tom Anselmi said that “only a couple of protests have been lodged” about the price increase (TORONTO SUN, 9/5).
