Names In The News

As part of an extensive profile of DEI CEO TERESA EARNHARDT, NASCAR SCENE's Mike Hembree notes she has "remained in the background" since DALE EARNHARDT JR. decided not to return to the team, and DEI President of Global Operations MAX SIEGEL "has become the public face" of the team.  But Siegel insisted, "She's very engaged in the business."  DEI VP & GM JOHN STORY said that she "gets a bad rap from fans and that she is dedicated" to winning.  Story: "She goes to more races than people realize. ... She'll come in and attend a lot of meetings, but she doesn't have to be front and center in every situation.  She has great people to run things at the race track" (NASCAR SCENE, 8/23 issue).

NAMES: An FX pilot called "4 Oz.," originally about a married sportswriter "who comes to the realization he is a transsexual," is now about a married-dad gynecologist who gets a sex change.  FX said that the shift "wasn't made because the new series read too much" like the real-life story of L.A. Times columnist MIKE PENNER, aka CHRISTINE DANIELS (WASHINGTON POST, 8/23)....HRJ Capital, an investment firm whose partners include Pro Football HOFers JOE MONTANA and RONNIE LOTT, said one of its funds lost 12.3% in the first two weeks of August, "erasing most of its 2007 gain" (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 8/23)....In Boston, gossip columnists Fee & Raposa report Patriots QB TOM BRADY and actress BRIDGET MOYNAHAN have named their child JONATHAN BRADY (BOSTON HERALD, 8/24).  Boston Globe columnist Bob Ryan said, "This is a real test of Tom’s teflon nature in terms of the fact that no one has really come down too hard on him in any moral sense.” Brady is “pretty bullet-proof” (“Globe 10.0,” NESN, 8/23).
