Flyers Turning Goal Judge
Boxes Into Luxury Suites |
The Flyers are about to “capitalize financially” on the relocation of NHL goal judges this season by converting the vacated boxes behind each goal into luxury seats, according to Tim Panaccio of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. This season, all goal judges will be moved to the press box or “similar locations depending on arena configurations.” The former goal judge’s boxes at Wachovia Center has been redesigned into 12 “goal judge seats,” consisting of two rows of three seats. The new leather seats, which are “deeper than other seats” and have wait service, are being packaged with the lease of a suite for both Flyers and 76ers games. Flyers VP/Marketing & Communications Shawn Tilger said that a mid-level suite and six goal-judge seats would cost $225,000. He said of packaging the seats, “The majority of our suites are sold. What was intriguing to us was you could entertain clients in your suite, then rotate back and forth to the goal-judge seats.” Tilger indicated that if the seats do not sell as part of a suite package, the team will “put them on sale to the general public” (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 8/24).
