Judge Rules Civil Court Proceedings
Against Johnson Can Move Forward
Belle Int'l Holdings agreed to buy Fila Group's trademarks in China, Hong Kong and Macau for $48M.  Belle also plans to buy Fila's retail business in Hong Kong (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 8/20).

INSIDE JOKE: Campbell County (OH) Circuit Court Judge JULIE REINHARDT-WARD ruled that civil court proceedings against Bengals WR CHAD JOHNSON could move forward on the allegations of fraud, breach of contract, false and bait advertising, conspiracy and violations of the Consumer Protection Act, but threw out the allegation of criminal theft by deception. Johnson was sued by several people who attended shows at a comedy club in Newport last winter "claiming they didn't receive promised prizes" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 8/18).

POST, 8/20)....Red Sox GM THEO EPSTEIN "has quietly told a few people that his wife, MARIE, is pregnant" (BOSTON GLOBE, 8/18)....Univ. of Miami football players CALAIS CAMPBELL and KENNY PHILLIPS have taken out $3M insurance policies to protect them in case of career-ending injuries.  The policy was sold by Florida-based Total Planning, which "has insured UM players for several years" (PALM BEACH POST, 8/18).
