Media Notes

The Brewers have hired LHB Sports, Entertainment & Media President & CEO Lee H. Berke to “begin to take a look at how best to position Brewers [radio] broadcasts in the Milwaukee market.” The team's games have been on WTMJ-AM since '83, but the current contract expires after the ’08 season.  In Milwaukee, Bob Wolfley wrote the two “obvious candidates” to replace WTMJ are sports talk stations WAUK-AM and WSSP-AM (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 8/12).

TV Programming Around Team
SPANNING THE GLOBE: The Harlem Globetrotters have signed a deal with “Hell’s Kitchen” producer A. Smith & Co. to “develop small screen properties linked to the 81-year-old basketball franchise’s brand.”  The pact “covers a wide range of programming” possibilities including scripted, documentary, live events, animation and a reality show. The deal is “one of the first major moves” by CEO Kurt Schneider, who joined the Globetrotters in May after stints with FSN and WWE (DAILY VARIETY, 8/13).

PERSONALITIES: The Reds have re-signed broadcaster Marty Brennaman to a three-year extension through the 2010 season. Brennaman’s previous three-year deal was set to expire after this season (Reds)....Former Eagles LB Ike Reese is replacing Ron Jaworski as color analyst for the team’s preseason games.  Reese took part in the NFL’s inaugural Broadcast Boot Camp at NFL Films in New Jersey, where he was able to meet execs from CBS, ESPN, Fox, and NBC. Reese said that he has also “locked into deals with WIP-AM and Comcast SportsNet. His roles are undefined” (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 8/11)....For previews of Jaworski's debut as a "MNF" analyst tonight, see today's Closing Bell.
