Gandolfini To Play Sonny Vaccaro

Actor James Gandolfini will play former Nike, adidas and Reebok exec Sonny Vaccaro in HBO’s “ABCD Camp,” according to Michael Fleming of DAILY VARIETY. “Friday Night Lights” screenwriter Aaron Cohen pitched the project and will write the drama "chronicling the last youth basketball camp" established by Vaccaro. Gandolfini, who played Tony Soprano in HBO's "The Sopranos," will exec produce through his Attaboy Films with partner Alexandra Ryan. Dan Halsted will also exec produce with Warriors G Baron Davis (DAILY VARIETY, 8/13). Meanwhile, in L.A., Robyn Norwood wrote Vaccaro is “in demand as an expert in sports marketing and a commentator on the hypocrisy of college athletics.” Vaccaro, who is writing a book, has dates to speak at Harvard Univ. and Yale Univ. in September and has already lectured at Duke Univ. and the Univ. of Pennsylvania (L.A. TIMES, 8/13).
