Construction Causes Parking Headaches For Giants, Jets Fans

Fans Upset With Parking Situation
At Panthers-Giants Preseason Game
NFL Giants ticket holders that do not own a $150 season-parking pass have to pay $20 to park two miles from Giants Stadium in lots that ban tailgating -- which “didn’t sit well" with fans during Saturday night’s preseason game against the Panthers, according to Tom Davis of the Bergen RECORD. Those fans had to ride a shuttle bus that dropped them off “a half-mile from the stadium.” This system will be used while the new Giants-Jets stadium is being built on 5,000 former parking spots near the existing stadium. Fans with the prepaid pass “are permitted to park and tailgate in the Giants Stadium lot -- which angered some daily parkers who said they were unaware of the new rules.” But Giants-Jets stadium consultant William Squires said that the teams “sent at least three letters to season-ticket holders about the new rules” and “informed fans through their Web sites” (Bergen RECORD, 8/11).

JETS: The shuttle bus system that got "lousy reviews at last month’s Live Earth concert appeared to fare much better” for the Jets’ preseason game on Friday night. The team hired 65 shuttle buses, “more than twice as many as were initially available” for the July 7 concert.  But some Jets fans complained about the $25 fee to park in the remote lots, and the “half-mile or so that many had to walk from their cars to catch a shuttle bus to the stadium” (Bergen RECORD, 8/11).
