MLS Teams Seeing Bump In Ticket Sales For Galaxy Game

Beckham Boosting Ticket Sales For Galaxy Road Games

RED BULLS: The Red Bulls have sold more than 50,000 tickets despite increasing the price of individual tickets to their match against the Galaxy on August 18. Seats that typically sell for $20, $28 and $38, are being sold for $40, $50 and $65 for the Galaxy game. There are still about 25,000 tickets for sale in the upper deck. The Red Bulls said they will not offer refunds if Beckham does not play.  Through August 2, the team averaged 11,514 fans per game.

REVVED UP: The Revolution, which expanded Gillette Stadium's soccer capacity from 20,000 to 32,000 for their game against the Galaxy, has sold out of tickets.  The game was sold exclusively as part of a four-game game pack, which was priced below the cost of four individual game tickets.  The Revolution will not offer refunds. Revolution Communications Manager Lizz Summers: “It’s like any other sporting event, we can’t guarantee who's going to be there and who's not.” The team averaged 14,654 in attendance through August 2 (THE DAILY).

INJURY BUG: MLS Commissioner Don Garber said of Beckham missing games due to an injured ankle, “This is a five-year deal and while we’re all frustrated, I know David is the most frustrated. But people will forget him missing these few games when he hits the field and starts playing” (ESPNSOCCERNET.com, 8/7). But in Newark, Frank Giase writes until he gets on the field, “everyone associated with Beckham -- the team, the league, ESPN -- is not being truthful to an overanxious public that, game by game, is being taken advantage of” (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 8/7). Beckham threw out the first pitch during Yankees-Blue Jays last night and visited with Yankees SS Derek Jeter before the game (Mult., 8/7).
