Nationals Having More Problems With TV Partners

Confusion Causes Some Fans To Miss
Beginning Of Cardinals-Nationals
The first few innings of Cardinals-Nationals on Saturday night “weren’t seen in some areas because of confusion between the entities that carry the game,” according to Barry Svrluga of the WASHINGTON POST. The game was supposed to air on MASN2 or WDCA-MYT “depending on geography,” but “in some places, the game did not appear on WDCA.” A MASN spokesperson said that “there was ‘a technical issue’ that was resolved.” Nationals President Stan Kasten said, “On no occasion are the Nats responsible for which network carries the games. This has happened too often. I’m damn tired of it” (WASHINGTON POST, 8/5). In a "forceful tirade," Kasten said that Comcast “was telling its viewers that the Nationals ordered the blackout because of low attendance.”  Kasten: "We are always the victims.  And it happened [Saturday night]. ... They do this (expletive) all the time.  The notion is stupid. ... We are the last people to have any control over any of this" (WASHINGTON TIMES, 8/5).

CAROLINA IN MY MIND: MASN is airing TV ads in North Carolina touting its live coverage of 520 sports games and directs fans to PlayBallNow.org, which it launched earlier this summer to help land basic carriage in the state. While MASN “claims to have a petition signed by thousands of disgruntled” Time Warner Cable subs, a Time Warner rep said the company has heard “very little from our customers in North Carolina on this issue, despite MASN’s efforts. ... These expensive programmer-run campaigns are generally not effective” (CABLEFAX DAILY, 8/6).
