London Olympic Stadium Builders
Revising Plans For Venue
In London, David Bond reports the builders of London’s Olympic Stadium, Team McAlpine, have “been ordered to revise their plans amid concerns over rising costs.”  The Olympic Delivery Authority was “alarmed at their original plans, which would have cost almost [US$1.43B] to deliver -- more than double the [US$574M] estimate submitted at the time of London’s successful bid in 2005.”  Team McAlpine will attempt to cut US$410M from the total (London TELEGRAPH, 7/26).

WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN: A “massive plumbing problem,” not a water pipe break as earlier reported, resulted in thousands of gallons of water and some sewage overflowing a holding tank during a Kenny Chesney concert at Cleveland Browns Stadium on July 14.  As a result, the Browns’ locker room “has been completely gutted.”  Browns VP/Communications Bill Bonsiewicz said that the stadium will be ready for the August 11 Chiefs-Browns preseason game (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 7/26).

BANK TELLER: Illinois-based Andy Frain Services has signed a multi-year deal to serve as the event management company for BankAtlantic Center (SSE).  CSC previously served as event manager at the arena (SUN-SENTINEL.com, 7/25).
