NFL Franchise Notes: Chargers Sell Out Regular Season

The Chargers have sold out all eight regular-season home games for the ’07 season, bringing the team’s streak of consecutive regular-season and postseason sellouts to 29 games (Chargers).

LOOKING TO BUY? Retiring NFLer Curtis Martin appeared on CBS’ “The Early Show” this morning, where he was asked about a rumor that he plans to buy an NFL team.  Martin said, “It’s very true. Actually, I thought that things would be done today, and I thought that I would announce it and make the big announcement here on your show today. It didn’t work out that way, but it’s something that’s definitely in progress."  Martin declined to name the team, saying, "I can’t be specific right now ... because of what’s going on, and I don’t want to jeopardize the deal that’s at hand” (“The Early Show,” CBS, 7/26).

PACKERS: In Green Bay, Richard Ryman notes the name of former Packers President & COO John Jones was “not mentioned ”during the team's annual shareholders meeting yesterday.  An “abrupt introduction of [Packers Exec Committee member] Peter Platten III as Chairman of ‘the search committee’ was as close as they came to addressing last week’s resignation and settlement.”  Platten said the situation was not discussed because “there was an agreement we would not discuss issues relevant to the settlement.”  Some shareholders said that they were “disappointed something wasn’t said during the meeting, but most said they trusted [Chair & CEO Bob] Harlan” (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 7/26).

RAIDERS: Massachusetts-based Neurologica has loaned the Raiders a $300,000 CT scanners for use in training rooms.  The Raiders will become the "first NFL team to have a portable on-site CT scanner" (BOSTON HERALD, 7/26).
