Former WTKA-AM Personality Shand Sues Michigan AD Martin

Former WTKA-AM personality Dave Shand filed suit in U.S. District Court in Ann Arbor Tuesday against Univ. of Michigan AD Bill Martin, alleging that Martin “threatened to withdraw broadcast rights of [UM] football games from WTKA unless Shand was fired,” according to Mark Snyder of the DETROIT FREE PRESS.  In the suit, which does not include UM, Shand contends that he was taken off the air in April when Martin "retaliated for Shand's critical comments of Martin and the athletic department."  Shand is seeking “at least $75,000 in damages," the minimum in federal court.  Host Communications licenses UM's broadcast rights as an agent of the school (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 7/26).
