Marbury Looking To Follow Beckham's
Footsteps And Eventually Play Overseas |
Knicks G Stephon Marbury indicated that when his contract expires with the Knicks in two years, he is “planning to play in Italy,” according to Marc Berman of the N.Y. POST. Marbury: “I’m going to do it. My wife loved it there. It’s like a (David) Beckham thing.” Berman notes Marbury has one year left on his contract with Steve & Barry’s for his Starbury line of low-priced sneakers and apparel, and has told friends he “wants to take his sneakers global” (N.Y. POST, 7/18). Marbury is writing a blog for the N.Y. POST during his trip across the U.S. to promote his Starbury line. Today he writes, “I’m looking at how David Beckham is getting love for coming here. He’s 32. I’ll be 32 at the end of my Knicks’ contract. … I want to do the same thing for basketball and spread the Starbury Movement so people all around the world can benefit. I want to make things affordable for everybody.” Meanwhile, Marbury noted his deal with FSN for his “Stars on Stars” show “ends this month and we’re talking to some networks now to reach even more people. I can’t wait till we do a Starbury reality TV [show] for my journey overseas" (NYPOST.com, 7/18).
