Brennaman, Davis To Serve As Lead Big Ten Broadcast Team

Brennaman To Be Lead
Play-By-Play Announcer
The Big Ten Network (BTN) today announced that play-by-play announcer Thom Brennaman and analyst Charles Davis will be the lead college football broadcast team for the network.  Brennaman and Davis, along with Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez, called last season’s Fiesta Bowl and BCS title game for Fox Sports, which owns 49% of the BTN.  The net’s other broadcast teams  include former Bulls announcer Wayne Larrivee teamed with former NFLer Chris Martin (who played at Northwestern), and former Univ. of Minnesota coach Glen Mason paired with a yet to be announced partner.  Former ESPN announcer Dave Revsine will be the lead studio host with former ESPN analyst and Indiana Univ. coach Gerry DiNardo and former NFLer Howard Griffith (who played at Illinois) serving as analysts (THE DAILY).

MEDIACOM: In Iowa City, Ryan Suchomel noted negotiations between the BTN and Mediacom are “at an impasse.”  The BTN, which is asking for $1.10 per subscriber, “wants to be part of the basic or extended basic cable lineup,” but Mediacom would “rather the new channel be offered as part of a sports tier that would be available at an additional cost.”  Univ. of Iowa Associate AD for External Affairs Rick Klatt, speaking to reporters about the negotiations on Monday, referring to DirecTV, said, “There is an option out there [for people who want the network].” Mediacom Communications Manager Phyllis Peters said, “If (the BTN) really wants their place on expanded basic, then maybe they can give on the price” (IOWA CITY PRESS-CITIZEN, 7/17).

IN THE ARCHIVES: Klatt said that the school’s Iowa Football Replay Show, which was shown on Tuesdays on Mediacom Connections in Des Moines and featured replays of the previous weekend’s game, will be replaced by the BTN’s telecast of archived footage. Klatt said that the BTN has “purchased the entire conference classic inventory held by ESPN and intends to use game replays as part of a key feature" of the new network (DES MOINES REGISTER, 7/17).
