OSMOSIS JONES: Officials from Chivas USA, which shares The Home Depot Center with the Galaxy, said that their team “will benefit from Beckham joining the Galaxy on and off the field.” Chivas USA CEO & GM Javier Leon: “This chaos is going to be good chaos because there’s going to be more of a focus on this sport in the U.S., on the league. That helps us, everyone, because it means that if we are trying to go out and tell people about our product -- let’s say Chivas -- now people know more about the league, know more about the Home Depot Center they’re more familiar with the structure of the league” (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 7/12).

GIVE ME FUEL, GIVE ME FIRE: In Houston, John Lopez notes last night’s Dynamo-Fire game, which was scheduled to be the debut game for new Fire F Cuauhtemoc Blanco -- another player signed under the designated player rule -- before he was called away to national team duty for Mexico, was a sellout. Before yesterday, the Fire sold out just one game all season, “for the most part averaging [12,000-13,000] fans.” Fire President & CEO John Guppy: “From a sponsorship standpoint, it’s taken all our commercial production to a new level” (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 7/13).
