Many Feel Howard Is Baseball's
Next Marketing Superstar |
People “ranging from baseball officials to fast-food execs to sports marketing experts think [Phillies 1B Ryan] Howard has the fuel for a meteoric marketing rise,” according to Derrick Goold of the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH. MLB Exec VP/Baseball Operations Jimmie Lee Solomon added, “Ryan has captivated a lot of people. We should, as an industry, raise his profile. Ryan Howard ... should be as popular for our sport as LeBron James. We should work on making that happen.” After last season, Howard hired the third different agent in his career, CAA’s Casey Close. Close indicated that his plan is to “grow Howard’s national identity, his ‘brand,’ strategically.” Close: “People love power hitters. He’s an intelligent, likable star that can get him to the next level, the level where he enters pop culture.” Goold noted Howard is featured in a Subway ad and a regional spot for Verizon, and others are “being considered.” Howard also has a deal with Topps, and his agreements with adidas and Under Armour will “soon end.” Subway Franchisee Advertising Fund Trust CMO Tony Pace: "He’s not fully on the national scene yet. We felt we got Ryan Howard really early. This was our hidden gem" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 6/24).
