Court Records Show That
Jones Is Heavily In Debt

U.S. Olympic Gold Medal-winning sprinter MARION JONES is “heavily in debt.” Recent court records state that her “millions of dollars are gone and that she has ‘total liquid assets throughout the world’ of about $2,000.”  When asked where her money went, Jones said, “Who knows?  I wish I knew.  Bills, attorney bills, a lot of different things to maintain the lifestyle” (L.A. TIMES, 6/23).

NAMES: Former Yankees players DARRYL STRAWBERRY and JIM LEYRITZ will appear in “The Boy of Steel,” a one-act play based on the book of the same name by Yankees special assistant RAY NEGRON.  The play will be part of a fundraising show at the Paradise Theater in the Bronx on August 18.  Former Yankees CF BERNIE WILLIAMS will participate in the show by playing a concert with JOSE FELICIANO and others (N.Y. TIMES, 6/25)....The N.Y. POST’s Page Six cites sources as saying that OK magazine paid more than $2M for the exclusive rights to photos of the July 7 wedding of actress EVA LONGORIA and Spurs G TONY PARKER (N.Y. POST, 6/25).

DANCE FEVER: In N.Y., Selena Roberts wrote the “rage over competitions” like “Dancing With the Stars,” “American Idol” and “America’s Got Talent” is not a “rationalized phase but a social shift that, in part, reflects a quantifiable disillusionment with mainstream sports.”  Competitions are “fulfilling conventional sports cravings for winners and losers, for drama and incredible feats.”  Olympic Gold Medal-winning speedskater and “Dancing With the Stars” winner APOLO ANTON OHNO: “There is a large portion of society who is into watching people succeed, into watching competition, and this is an interactive way to do that.  They feel a part of that by voting and calling in.  And I think that’s important” (N.Y. TIMES, 6/24).
