Bush (l) And Beckham Starring
In New adidas Online Spot |
adidas this week is launching a new Web site, futbolmeetsfootball.com, featuring Galaxy MF David Beckham and Saints RB Reggie Bush teaching each other about their respective sports. The site features footage of Beckham showing Bush how to kick a soccer ball and Bush teaching Beckham, who is wearing shoulder pads and a Saints helmet and jersey, how to kick, throw and catch a football. Bush also attempts to stop penalty kicks from Beckham, and Beckham runs pass routes with Bush covering him. The two athletes also discuss what Beckham should expect upon his arrival to the U.S. in July (adidas). adidas VP/Brand Marketing Stephen Pierpoint said that Beckham and Bush will also co-star in the company’s “Impossible is Nothing” campaign this fall. USA TODAY’s Michael McCarthy notes the online campaign is the “first of three efforts this year by Adidas that Beckham is slated to headline” (USA TODAY, 6/25).
BRANDING BECKHAM: Beckham’s likely MLS debut against Toronto FC on August 5 will be “accompanied with a lot of advertising.” Galaxy President Alexi Lalas: “It will be a coordinated blitz, if you will. We want to make sure that we’re not duplicating efforts. So there will be obviously stuff from adidas, the Galaxy, ESPN and a bunch of other ones” (AP, 6/25).
