Romo's Hispanic Roots Used To Generate Interest In Training Camp

CVB Using Romo's Hispanic Roots In
Marketing Of Cowboys Training Camp

The San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) hopes that Cowboys QB Tony Romo’s “Hispanic roots will result in record numbers flocking to the [team’s] training camp this summer at the Alamodome,” according to Tom Orsborn of the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS.  There are several cross promotions in the works, including “spots on the team’s radio network in markets the CVB aggressively mines for visitors.”  CVB Exec Assistant Dir of Sales & Marketing John Solis said, “We’re talking about markets like Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Shreveport, Little Rock, Austin and cities in the Valley. Basically, wherever there is a strong interest in people coming to San Antonio.”  Orsborn reports the Cowboys plan to run full-page ads for the CVB in game-day programs, and ads will appear on Web sites for both the club and the CVB.  TV spots will appear on the Cowboys’ Blue Star Media network. Cowboys Dir of Marketing John Hickman said, “We are marketing camp aggressively and actively.” The team has a five-year contract to hold training camp in San Antonio, and Solis said with the length of the agreement, “We have something we can really hang our hats on” (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 6/15).
