Let's Get On The Road Again: MLBP's Road Show Lineup

MLBPA Road Show To Make 110-115 Stops
MLBP yesterday announced its line-up of tours for its annual Road Show, a traveling music-marketing program that seeks to expand the league’s reach with the 16-25 age demographic. Leading this year’s roster is Linkin Park’s Projekt Revolution Tour. The California rock band will make regular appearances at a 53-foot trailer MLB sets up each stop with batting and pitching cages, videogames, and a showcase for MLBP’s Authentic Collection of merchandise. The band will also judge entries in a New Era Cap design contest, and offer winners a spot as a temporary roadie. MLBP will additionally run a contest to give away a trip to each game of this year's World Series.

TOUR HEADS: The Road Show also has aligned with Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, the Virgin Festival, Sasquatch Music Festival, Wakarusa Music & Camping Festival, Virgin College Mega Tour, and DUB Custom Auto Show & Concert. All told, the effort is expected to make 110 to 115 stops this spring and summer, up from about 100 last year. Champs Sports returns as the official retail partner for the Road Show. The Road Show itinerary shows a significant amount of change from last year. Many of the stops are new, most notably the DUB tour, which combines high-end cars and hip-hop music. Out this year is the CMA Music Festival in Nashville, which last year marked an effort by baseball to bring the tour into the country music market. MLBP execs said that event did not generate enough foot traffic to warrant a return.  “There’s a ton of diversity in our line-up this year,” said Steve Armus, MLBP VP/Licensing. “Some of it is rock, some of it is metal, some of it is more jam-band stuff, some of it is hip-hop. It’s a ton of different things, but it’s all the same demographic. We think we’re going out with a great lineup and our best [on-site] footprint ever.”
