SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL’s Michael Smith reports IMG has "quietly created a new division" called IMG College Sports. IMG, which acquired Collegiate Licensing Co. (CLC) last month, announced CLC President PAT BATTLE will also be named IMG College Sports Senior VP, reporting to IMG Sports & Entertainment President GEORGE PYNE (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 6/4 issue).

FRANCHISE: The Pirates have created a Community & Public Affairs Department as part of a restructuring of their Communications Department. VP/Communications PATTY PAYTAS has been named VP/Community & Public Affairs, with duties that include leading the development of Pirates Charities, the organization’s newly formed philanthropic arm. Senior Dir of Business Communications BRIAN WARECKI will become Senior Dir of Communications (Pirates).... The MLS Wizards named CHRIS CISSELL Dir of Youth Development. Cissell will continue as head coach of the William Jewell College men’s and women’s soccer teams (Wizards)....WNBA Storm PR Manager JENNIFER CARROLL has resigned to take a position with Seattle-based Richmond PR. MARK ROSENBERG will serve as the new day-to-day PR contact for the Storm (Storm).

GOLF: Ashworth named EDDIE FADEL President, replacing GARY SCHNEIDERMAN, who left the company. Exec VP/Green Grass Sales & Merchandising PETER HOLMBERG has also left. Overall, 16 staff positions were eliminated. Fadel, who was most recently VP/Merchandising at Reebok’s Greg Norman brand, served as Ashworth Senior VP/Merchandising & Design from '01-04. PETER WEIL continues as CEO (BRANDWEEK, 6/4 issue)....The National Golf Foundation (NGF) elected FootJoy President JIM CONNOR Chair and Golfsmith President & CEO JIM THOMPSON Vice Chair, and re-elected Golf Course Superintendents Association of America CEO STEPHEN MONA Secretary/Treasurer (NGF).

EXECS: Marquette Univ. promoted Associate AD for Communications & Marketing MIKE BROEKER to Deputy AD (THE DAILY)....The USOC named LINDSAY DEWALL Manager of Media & PR. Previously, DeWall was with the U.S. Figure Skating Association (USOC)....ISP Sports acquired Sports Business Solutions (SBS), which will become a new division called Championship Division Services/Facility Sponsorships. JERRY RECKERD, who had been running SBS, “will stay on” with ISP (BUSINESS JOURNAL OF THE GREATER TRIAD AREA, 6/1 issue)....Learfield Sports named BLAKE SMITH Account Exec for Univ. of Wyoming Sports Properties (Learfield).

MEDIA: CBS SportsLine announced STEVE ELLING will be a columnist for the site, covering the PGA Tour (CBS SportsLine)....FoxSports.com signed former N.Y. Daily News writer MARK KRIEGEL as a national columnist. Kriegel will write a weekly column on sports and pop culture named after his former newspaper column, “On The Mark” (THE DAILY).
